What patients say

Patient experiences

'After my breast cancer surgery I developed significant cording down my arm and under my breast which was both painful and restrictive. I was fortunate to be treated by India who was absolutely fantastic.

From the very first session India was knowledgeable, compassionate and incredibly reassuring. Using gentle techniques she was able to release and even snap some of the cords which brought immediate relief and noticeably improved my movement and discomfort. What had felt tight, painful and frustrating became much more manageable thanks to her expertise.

Not only did she help ease my symptoms physically but she also gave me the confidence and support I needed during a difficult stage of my recovery. Her understanding of post-breast cancer surgery complications was exceptional and I always felt I was in safe hands.

I cannot recommend India highly enough to anyone experiencing cording or mobility issues following breast cancer treatment. The difference she made to my recovery has been invaluable.'

Oncology Physiotherapy FAQs

Still have questions?

Do I need a referral?

No. You can self refer. Just bring your up to date clinic letters so we get a full understanding of your cancer history and treatments.

Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?

It is helpful for you to bring your up to date clinic letters from your Surgeon and/or Oncologist so we can get a full understanding of your cancer history. Also it is important we have your Cancer Teams contact details so we can communicate with them when needed.

Can I bring someone with me to the appointment?

Of course, but please only bring one person.

Will I need to show you my surgery site?

If you have had surgery we will likely need to assess this area, especially if pain or limited movement is an issue for you. In order to do this, you will need to undress the area. Please be reassured that the clinic is completely private, and of course, you do not have to do anything you are not comfortable with.

What should I wear to my appointment?

It is likley that some form of exercise will be a part of your appointment, so please come in something comfortable.

Will India liaise with my Cancer Team?

Absolutely! We will liaise with your cancer team to ensure your treatment remains safe and collobarative. Please bring your Oncologists/Surgeons contact details so we can easily reach them when needed.

Can I take part in Oncology Physiotherapy during Chemotherapy and/or Radiotherapy?

Yes. It is safe to exercise during both of these treatments and exercise can actually improve treatment side effects, help to manage fatigue and improve your tolerance to these treatments.

There will be consideration given to the side effects that you may be experiencing during these treatments and so exercise may need to be adapted during these times.

What if my treatment finished months or years ago?

Many cancer patients are unfortunatly still experiencing side effects 10 years on from their treatment, so if you are still facing challenges, you are not alone and it is not too late to address these side effects. Cancer Rehab is here for all patients, no matter when their cancer diagnosis was.

When can I start Oncology Physiotherapy?

You can begin at any point, starting from the moment you receive your diagnosis, up until years after your treatment. Nobody's cancer journey is the same and nor is their recovery.

What's the difference between Oncology Physiotherapy and Oncology Scar Therapy?

Oncology Scar Therapy is one part of Cancer Rehab and is used to relieve the symptoms of scars. This treatment may or may not be indicated for you, but will be clincially decided by considering your challenges, goals and what the assessment reveals.
